Crustacean parasites of fishes in the Big Thicket are fairly rare. They are more common (so far) in fishes outside of the Preserve proper, especially in man-made reservoirs. Shown below are 2 examples: on the left is a parasitic copepod from the gills of catfish collected from Lake Livingston; on the right is a member of the genus Lernaea shown still attached to the mandible of a Cyprinella venusta collected from the Trinity River.
