BioSci 101 -
Introduction to Botany

In Botany 101, we examine major biological concepts as illustrated by plants.  These concepts include anatomy (structure), morphology (function), physiology (basic biochemical life processes), reproduction (genetics and life cycles), ecology (interactions with other organisms and the environment), and classification (evolution, systematics, naming and recognizing major plant groups).

Botany 101 fulfills the General Studies requirement but please be aware that this is the first course on the Biology Major sequence.  I do not distinguish among majors and non-majors: you are all beginners on a level field and I expect hard work, curiosity, interest, and an enthusiastic attitude from each of you.

This web site is designed to provide you with course tools and materials.

The syllabus is here, of course, but you already have a copy on paper.

The Lecture Figures section of the web site will let you download all of the figures used in lecture. Each PDF file contains a series of figures grouped together to make the download easier. If you have trouble with the PDF files, upgrade your copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader free of charge at www.adobe.com.

Let me know what works and what's useless.  If you have any ideas for ways to make this site more productive for you, please let me know.  Good luck and have some fun while you're at it.
